Also known as "Big" David or "Big Davey" due to being born nine months before his kinsman "Little" David McClure.[224],[225] He emigrated in 1822 to Upper Canada (Ontario), British North America (Canada); with Samuel "Big Sammy" McClure.[226] He and Elizabeth Skelton lived in 1837 at Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Upper Canada (Ontario), British North America (Canada); at either lot 4, con. 1; or lot 10, con. 4.[227],[228] He and Elizabeth Skelton appeared on the census of 1851 at Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where David (50) was an Irish-born yeoman, with Elizabeth (43) also born in Ireland, and John (20), David (18), James (15), William (7), Joseph (4), Robert (2), Mary Jane (16), Margaret (13), Sarah (6) born in Canada, members of the Free Church.[229] He and Elizabeth Skelton appeared on the census of 1861 at Lot 11, Con. 4, Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where David (61) was an Irish-born farmer, and Elizabeth (51) also born Ireland, David (25), Margaret (20), James (22), William (18), Sarah (12), Joseph (10), and Robert (8) all born Upper Canada, were present, living in a 1½ brick house. On 187 acres, the family produced wheat, barley, peas, oats, potatoes, turnips, and hay.[230] He appeared on the census of 1871 at Lot 11, Con. 4, Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Ontario, Canada; where David McClure (70) was a farmer, and widower, with David McClure (35), William McClure (24), Joseph McClure (21), Sarah McClure (18), Robert McClure (16) present.[231],[232]

He was also known as "Gray John" MCCLURE.[241] He and Rachel Arnott appeared on the census of 1861 at Lot 7, Con. 6, Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where John (31) was a farmer, with Rachel (24), and Elizabeth J (2) present, living in a 1-story frame house, on 100 acres.[242] He and Rachel Arnott appeared on the census of 1881 at Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Ontario, Canada; where John (50) was a farmer, and Rachael (42), Elizabeth (20), James (18) and Rachael (4) were present.[243] He and Rachel Arnott appeared on the census of 1901 at Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., Ontario, Canada; where John Mcclure (72, b. Aug 1829) was a farmer, with Rachell Mcclure (62, b. 5 Jan 1839), Millie Mcclure (22, b. Dec 1878) their daughter, and William Young (25) a farm labourer, were present.[244]
