The Mortons during the Great Famine.
The Last Mortons in Ireland The last Morton ancestors of our line to live and die in Ireland were Francis Morton Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Barrett, born in the late 1700’s. 

Their family, larger than was known previously, consisting of five sons and three daughters: 
 

Francis Morton

  • George Dean  b. 1822 
  • Francis  b.c. 1827-29

Of these, son James continue this story and possibly all three daughters Sarah, Ellen and Elizabeth continue this story lived out their lives in Ireland. We don’t know if any of their Morton descendants remain there now. 

The four other sons emigrated from Ireland before the end of the century. 

George continue this story became a medical doctor and left for Canada in 1848. He settled in Holland Landing and began a successful practice which he would eventually move to Bradford in 1854. 

Edward continue this story was much younger than his brother, and went to Canada in 1856 to study medicine at the University of Toronto. He began his practice in Barrie and married George's sister-in-law. 

William continue this story went, instead to Australia and became a sheep rancher. 

Franciscontinue this story , began his family in Ireland, and did not emigrate to Canada until 1880.

The fates of Francis Sen. and Elizabeth are unknown. The only place they were ever mentioned was on the younger Francis' death registration in 1911 (1)
