2. Nathaniel2 SNEYD (child of John1);[2],[3] born circa 1828 at Co. Kildare, Ireland;[4],[5],[6] married Martha Lockington, daughter of George Lockington and Rebecca Wright, 21 Jan 1858 at Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where Nathaniel and Martha were of Hope Twp;[7] died 20 Jan 1895;[8],[9] buried at Perrytrown Anglican Church Cemetery, Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada, "Nathaniel Sneyd died Jan 20, 1895 aged 67 years / His wife Martha died Jan 16, 1894 aged 53 years / Kind Hearts are Better then Coronets and Simple Faith than Norman Blood."[10],[11]

He was educated "in Master Watson's school, a private school, until he was about twenty years of age."[12] He emigrated circa 1844 to Bytown (Ottawa), Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); "That would be about the year 1844, the year of great privation in Ireland because of the potato rot and many were leaving for America. It would seem that father made a bolt for Canada without saying very much about it to the family connection. He made his stop at Ottawa, which was then called 'Bytown'. Later on he made his way to Port Hope."[13] He was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1849.[14] Nathaniel reduced to poverty by a landshark and a deafulted loan.[15] He and Martha Lockington lived at Lake Shore Road, west of town, Port Hope, Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada).[16],[17] He and Martha Lockington lived circa 1866 at con 1, Cavan Twp., Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); "The house was log, as many were in that day and district. It had an earthen cellar and outside plumbing, but fairly well built. Later on father built a back kitchen and two bedrooms, and mother had a sunken milkhouse. A few yards away we had a roothouse that kept till June, October's vegetables."[18] He and Martha Lockington appeared on the census of 1871 at lot 16, con 1, Cavan Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathan (40) was Irish-born labourer, and Marth (28), Catherine Ann (11?), Sarah Jane (11), George (7), Rebecca (5?), and William (2) were present. The family was Church of England, the children born in Ontario. They were tenants on 5 acres producing oats, potatoes and butter. They possesed 3 cows, 2 swine.[19] He and Martha Lockington lived in 1880 at s½ lot 23, con 9, Garden Hill, Hope Twp, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathaniel was a tenant farmer on 100 acres.[20] He and Martha Lockington appeared on the census of 1881 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathan was an Irish farmer, Church of England, age 54, and Martha (39, b Ireland), and children all born in Ontario, Sarah (20), George (17), Rhebeca (15), William (11), Edward (9), Frederick (7), Herbert (4), and Elizabeth (7 mos) were present.[21] He and Martha Lockington appeared on the census of 1891 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathaniel (65) was a gentleman, and Martha (50), George (26), Rebecca (24), William (21), Edward (19), Frederick (16), and Herb (14) were present.[22]

Martha LOCKINGTON[23],[24] was born circa 1842 possibly in at Co. Cavan, Ulster, Ireland.[25] She died "of old age and asthma, aged 53", as informed by Wm J. Sneyd of Hope Twp on 16 Jan 1894 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada.[26],[8],[27] She was buried at Perrytrown Anglican Church Cemetery, Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada, "Nathaniel Sneyd died Jan 20, 1895 aged 67 years / His wife Martha died Jan 16, 1894 aged 53 years / Kind Hearts are Better then Coronets and Simple Faith than Norman Blood."[28] She emigrated between 1846 and 1849 to Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada).[29] "In Mother's middle teens she and father met and soon after Martha Lockington became the wife of Nathaniel Sneyd."[30]

Asa BARNARD was born on 14 Dec 1854 at Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada).[56] He married Annie Shaw Lockington, daughter of Edward Lockington and Sarah Anne Lockington, on 14 Jan 1920; where Asa (63) was a widower farmer, of Baileboro, Methodist, and Annie (49) was spinster (and cousin to Asa's first wife Catherine Sneyd).[57],[58],[59] He died on 8 Apr 1926 at Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, at age 71.[60] He was buried at Cemetery, Bailieboro, Northumberland Co., Ontario, Canada, in same plot as Catherine Sneyd.[61]

George Henry3 SNEYD (child of Nathaniel2, John1);[75],[75] born 29 Sep 1863 at Rice Lake, Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada);[76],[77],[78] married Nellie Florence Simpson 22 Jun 1898 at Drumbo, Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada; where George (33) was of Fonthill, New Port Hope, and Nellie was of Drumbo;[79] died 1953.[80]

He and Nellie Florence Simpson appeared on the census of 1901 at Pellham Twp, Welland Co., Ontario, Canada; where George (37) was a Baptist clergyman, Nellie F (25), and Howard N (1) were present.[81] He and Nellie Florence Simpson appeared on the census of 1911 at lot 19, con. 4, Charlotteville Twp., Norfolk Co, Ontario, Canada; where George H (47) was a Baptist preacher, Neillie F (35), Howard N (11), Ralph S (9), Evelyn H (5), Frederick E (3) were present.[82] In 1926, George Henry Sneyd lived at Severn Bridge, Muskoka District, Ontario, Canada.[83] In 1948, George wrote a letter to his brother Herb about his early childhood entitled "Early Days in the Township of Cavan."[84]

Nellie Florence SIMPSON was born on 4 Aug 1875 at Ontario, Canada.[77] She died in 1960.[80]

He emigrated in 1896 to United States of America.[93] He seems to have appeared on the census of 1900 at Sherman St, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America; where William (31), born Canada to Irish parents, was a teamster, rooming in the home of James Caherlee (46) and family.[94] He appeared on the census of 1910 at 348 W. 61st Place, Englewood, Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, United States of America; where William (41) was a carrier for a building firm, living as a boarder with family of Rillie F. Turner (46).[95] He and Ellen Jane McClaughry appeared on the census of 1930 at 6030 Ellis Ave., Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America; where William (60) was a janitor at the University, and Nellie (40), Herbert (11), William (9), Charles (7), and Nathaniel (1yr 11mos) were present.[96]

Ellen Jane MCCLAUGHRY was born on 2 Jun 1889 at Illinois, United States of America.[97] She died on 22 Apr 1956 at Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, United States of America, at age 66.[98] She was also known as Nellie.[99],[100]

Jul 1877), Elizabeth (b. Aug 1880), Herbert Alton (b. May 1904), Robt F (b. Feb 1906), and Geo N (b. 8. Herbert Stanley3 SNEYD (child of Nathaniel2, John1);[138],[138] born 4 Jul 1876 at Garden Hill, Hope Twp, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada;[139],[140] married Harriett Belle Hewson 18 Sep 1907 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada; where Herbert (31) was a preacher in Toronto, Harriett (33) was daughter of W. H. Hewson and Jennie Phelps. Marriage performed by G[eorge] H. Sneyd;[141],[142] married Nora (--?--);[143] died circa 1960.[144]

He appeared on the census of 1901 at Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Algoma District, Ontario, Canada; where Herbert S Sneyd (24) was a minister, lodging with the Evans family.[145] He and Harriett Belle Hewson lived circa 1909 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; for the birth of their first son.[146] He and Harriett Belle Hewson lived circa 1913 at Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan; where Herb helped to found the local YMCA, and became its General Secretary.[147],[148] The Sneyds were in Yokohama during the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923. "My father [H. Stan Sneyd] was working as a part-time delivery boy for the local drugstore at the time and was on a delivery during the disaster. He had left his bicycle leaning up against a utility pole and had taken his delivery of emergency supplies... He felt a tremble in the ground, looked back at his bike, only to see the earth open up underneath it, and the bicycle disappear in a fissure in the earth. ...Although they lived in Yokohama, some distance away from the epicentre, the quake was so strong that their house was destroyed as well, and they lost virtually everything. Fortunately, no one in the family was hurt."[149] Circa 1930 the family returned from Japan, going either to California due to Karl's ill health, and/or to Canada.[150] In 1948, George wrote a letter to his brother Herb about his early childhood entitled "Early Days in the Township of Cavan."[84]

Harriett Belle HEWSON died circa 1950.[144] She was also known as Hattie.[151]

    He began military service on 20 Aug 1918 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he was a student, 5ft 8in, with brown eyes and hair.[161]

    Ruth Forsey BUFFETT was born on 6 Mar 1904 at Sturgeon Falls, District of Nipissing, Ontario, Canada.[159] She died on 28 May 1978 at Guelph, Wellington Co., Ontario, Canada, at age 74.[159] She was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph, Wellington Co., Ontario, Canada.[160]
