He and Rebecca Wright lived before 1848 at Co. Cavan, Ulster, Ireland.[248] He and Rebecca Wright emigrated circa 1848 to Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); "They finally landed at Port Hope, or Smith's Creek and settled on the banks of that creek, now known as the Ganaraska. "[249],[250],[251] He and Rebecca Wright appeared on the census of 1851 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where George (35) was a labourer, Church of England, Rebecca (34) was Presbyterian, and Martha (12), Edward (8) and William (2) were present. All were born in Ireland except William, born in Canada.[252],[253] He and Rebecca Wright appeared on the census of 1861 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where George (45) was a labourer, and Rebecca (43), Edward (15), William (9), George (7), Mary Jane (6), and Rosean (3) were present.     He emigrated in 1857 to British North America (Canada); yet his parents came in 1849.[267] It is unlikely that Edward married an Elizabeth (1843-1862) before he married Sarah Anne Lockington or Jane Black.[268] He and Jane Black appeared on the census of 1881 at Port Hope, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Edward (39) was a teamster, and Jane (35), Anne (11), Henry (10), Maud (9), William (7), Etha [Eva?] (3), and Elsey (1) were present.[269] He and Jane Black appeared on the census of 1891 at Port Hope, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Edward (47) was Presbyterian, labourer, and Jane (45), Annie (20), Henry (19) at grinder-file factory, William (17), Eva (13), and Sandy (9) were present.[270] He and Jane Black appeared on the census of 1901 at Port Hope, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Ed (53) was a tanner, Jane (57), Annie S.     44. Robert4 RANKIN; born 1824 at Ireland;[297],[298] married Elizabeth Moore (see #45) circa 1848;[299] died of accidental drowning 15 Jun 1895 at Kingston, Ontario, Canada;[300],[301],[302],[303] buried at Union Cemetery, St. John's section, Toronto Rd., Port Hope, Ontario, Canada.[304]

    He was a cooper in 1857 at Hope St., Port Hope, Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada).[305] He and Elizabeth Moore appeared on the census of 1861 at Port Hope, Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where Robert (31) was a cooper, Elizabeth (28), William (12), Robert (10), and Elizabeth? (8) were present, living in a 1-story Frame house on a quarter-acre.[306] Robert and family not apparent in 1871 census.[307] He and Elizabeth Moore lived in 1880 at Hope St., Port Hope, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Robert was a cooper, and owner of ¼ acre, also housing son Robert Jr.[176] He and Elizabeth Moore appeared on the census of 1881 at Port Hope, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Robert (54) was a cooper, and Elizabeth (49), both born Ireland and Church of England.[308] He and Elizabeth Moore appeared on the census of 1891 at Port Hope, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Robert Sr. (64) was a cooper, and Eliza (59) was present.[309] In the Port Hope Weekly Guide it was said, "Kingston, June 17. -- On Saturday evening Robt. Rankin, of Port Hope, who, with his wife had been sailing about on his schooner the Eliza Fisher, was drowned at Swift's wharf. After the mate had washed the decks off, Mr. Rankin appeared under the influence of liquor and attempted to repeat the work which the mate had done. In drawing a pail of water Mr. Rankin fell overboard and on being recovered was unconscious. He was pulled out quickly, but every effort to resucitate him failed. He was rolled in a barrel, but life could not be restored by that process. Coroner Saunders decided that in view of the circumstances an inquest was not necessary. The remains will be shipped to Port Hope. The deceased was between 65 and 70 years of age."[310]

(4) were present, all CoE and born in ON.[318] In 1893 Constable William Rankin shot James McCabe, a prisoner escaping from Kingston Penitentiary.[319] He appeared on the census of 1911 at 23 Dundas, Napanee, Lennox and Addington Co., Ontario, Canada; where William (60) was a police magistrate, and Lavinia (58) was present.[320] He was Chief Magistrate in 1925 at Napanee, Lennox and Addington Co., Ontario, Canada.[321]
