      He was graduated in 1932 at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; with a Bachelor of Theology.[46] Robert became minister of Calvary Baptist Church in 1932.[47] As a member of the Ontario and Canadian Camping Associations, he founded camp Manitomono in 1933.[47] In 1933, Robert Frederick Sneyd and Ora Reubena Brown lived at 451 Gladstone Ave, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[48] Between 1934 and 1936, Robert Frederick Sneyd and Ora Reubena Brown lived at #204 - 737 Kingston Rd., Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[49] Between 1937 and 1938, Robert Frederick Sneyd and Ora Reubena Brown lived at 60 Rosevear Ave., East York, Ontario, Canada.[50] He began military service in 1939 as a Protestant chaplain, posted to the 5th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery, 2nd Division, and served in Europe for 5 years.[51] Between 1939 and 1984, Robert Frederick Sneyd and Ora Reubena Brown lived at 6 Benlamond Dr., Toronto, Ontario, Canada.[52] He ended military service in 1945; as a Major, and Senior Chaplain of the 5th Canadian Armoured Division.[51] Robert received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from McMaster in 1964.[46] He was retired in 1974; from Calvary Baptist Church after a career of 43 years.[51] Dr and Mrs. R.F. Sneyd opened Ganaraska Woods retreat in 1975.[53] Between 1984 and 1992, Robert Frederick Sneyd lived at 6 Benlamond Dr., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he continued to live after Ora had passed away.[54] Robert was past president of the Riverdale Kiwanis Club, and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute. Served on the Chaplaincy Committee of the Canadian Council of Churches for 30 years, and was a charter member of the Ontario Epileptic Association.[55]

      20. Nathaniel3 SNEYD (child of John, #40);[74],[75] born circa 1828 at Co. Kildare, Ireland;[76],[77],[78] married Martha Lockington (see #21), daughter of George Lockington and Rebecca Wright, 21 Jan 1858 at Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where Nathaniel and Martha were of Hope Twp;[79] died 20 Jan 1895;[80],[81] buried at Perrytrown Anglican Church Cemetery, Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada, where stone inscribed "Kind Hearts are Better then Coronets and Simple Faith than Norman Blood."[82],[83]

      He was educated "in Master Watson's school, a private school, until he was about twenty years of age."[84] He emigrated circa 1844 to Bytown (Ottawa), Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); "That would be about the year 1844, the year of great privation in Ireland because of the potato rot and many were leaving for America. It would seem that father made a bolt for Canada without saying very much about it to the family connection. He made his stop at Ottawa, which was then called 'Bytown'. Later on he made his way to Port Hope."[85] He was a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1849.[86] Nathaniel reduced to poverty by a landshark and a deafulted loan.[87] He and Martha Lockington lived at Lake Shore Road, west of town, Port Hope, Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada).[88],[89] He and Martha Lockington lived circa 1866 at con 1, Cavan Twp., Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); "The house was log, as many were in that day and district. It had an earthen cellar and outside plumbing, but fairly well built. Later on father built a back kitchen and two bedrooms, and mother had a sunken milkhouse. A few yards away we had a roothouse that kept till June, October's vegetables."[90] He and Martha Lockington appeared on the census of 1871 at lot 16, con 1, Cavan Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathan (40) was Irish-born labourer, and Marth (28), Catherine Ann (11?), Sarah Jane (11), George (7), Rebecca (5?), and William (2) were present. The family was Church of England, the children born in Ontario. They were tenants on 5 acres producing oats, potatoes and butter. They possesed 3 cows, 2 swine.[91] He and Martha Lockington lived in 1880 at s½ lot 23, con 9, Garden Hill, Hope Twp, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathaniel was a tenant farmer on 100 acres.[92] He and Martha Lockington appeared on the census of 1881 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathan was an Irish farmer, Church of England, age 54, and Martha (39, b Ireland), and children all born in Ontario, Sarah (20), George (17), Rhebeca (15), William (11), Edward (9), Frederick (7), Herbert (4), and Elizabeth (7 mos) were present.[93] He and Martha Lockington appeared on the census of 1891 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where Nathaniel (65) was a gentleman, and Martha (50), George (26), Rebecca (24), William (21), Edward (19), Frederick (16), and Herb (14) were present.[94]

        She and Asa Barnard appeared on the census of 1881 at Monahan South Twp, Peterborough Co., Ontario, Canada; where Asa () was a farmer, and Catherine (21) and Henry (1) were present, all Weslyan Methodist and born Ont.[102] She and Asa Barnard appeared on the census of 1901 at South Monaghan Twp., Peterborough Co., Ontario, Canada; where Asa (46) was a farmer, and Catherine (41), Henry W. (22) and Edith (14) were present.[103] She and Asa Barnard appeared on the census of 1911 at South Monaghan Twp., Peterborough Co., Ontario, Canada; where Asa (56) and Catherine (52) were present, with domestic Annie Smith (63).[104]

      • ii. Sarah Sneyd; born 2 Feb 1861 at Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada);[105],[106] married George A. Lord 23 Mar 1887 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where George (26) was a farmer, and both he and Sarah Jane (26) resided in Hope Twp.[107]

        She and George A. Lord appeared on the census of 1901 at Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada; where George (42) was a farmer, Sarah J (40), Catheleen (13), Wm (11), Maud (9), Cecil (7), Herbert (5), Walter (3), and Mary (3) were present, Baptist.[108]

George Henry Sneyd;[109],[109] born 29 Sep 1863 at Rice Lake, Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada);[110],[111],[112] married Nellie Florence Simpson 22 Jun 1898 at Drumbo, Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada; where George (33) was of Fonthill, New Port Hope, and Nellie was of Drumbo;[113] died 1953.[114]

        He and Nellie Florence Simpson appeared on the census of 1901 at Pellham Twp, Welland Co., Ontario, Canada; where George (37) was a Baptist clergyman, Nellie F (25), and Howard N (1) were present.[115] He and Nellie Florence Simpson appeared on the census of 1911 at lot 19, con. 4, Charlotteville Twp., Norfolk Co, Ontario, Canada; where George H (47) was a Baptist preacher, Neillie F (35), Howard N (11), Ralph S (9), Evelyn H (5), Frederick E (3) were present.[116] In 1926, George Henry Sneyd lived at Severn Bridge, Muskoka District, Ontario, Canada.[117] In 1948, George wrote a letter to his brother Herb about his early childhood entitled "Early Days in the Township of Cavan."[118]

      • iv. Rhebeca Sneyd;[119],[119] born circa 1866 at Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada).[120]

        She lived in 1897 at Bailieboro, Northumberland Co., Ontario, Canada; and was witness to the Larimer-Harmer wedding Mar. 24, 1897 at Bensfort.[121]

      • v. William Sneyd;[122],[122] born Jun 1868 at Ontario, Canada;[123],[124],[125] married Ellen Jane McClaughry 1 Jan 1915 at Cook Co., Illinois, United States of America; where William and Ellen were married in the First Church of the Nazarene in Chicago.[126],[127]

        He emigrated in 1896 to United States of America.[128] He seems to have appeared on the census of 1900 at Sherman St, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America; where William (31), born Canada to Irish parents, was a teamster, rooming in the home of James Caherlee (46) and family.[129] He appeared on the census of 1910 at 348 W. 61st Place, Englewood, Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, United States of America; where William (41) was a carrier for a building firm, living as a boarder with family of Rillie F. Turner (46).[130] He and Ellen Jane McClaughry appeared on the census of 1930 at 6030 Ellis Ave., Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America; where William (60) was a janitor at the University, and Nellie (40), Herbert (11), William (9), Charles (7), and Nathaniel (1yr 11mos) were present.[131]

      • vi. Edward Sneyd;[132],[132] born Mar 1871 at Ontario, Canada;[124],[133] married Sarah (--?--) circa 1896.[134]

        He emigrated in 1895 to New York, United States of America.[135] He and Sarah (--?--) appeared on the census of 1900 at 318 East St., Buffalo, Erie Co., New York, United States of America; where Edward (29), was a yard man at the lumber yard, and Sarah (32) were present, and sharing a home with Frank and Hannah Mayers.[136] He and Sarah (--?--) appeared on the census of 1910 at 66 Manhattan St., North Tonawanda, Niagara Co., New York, United States of America; where Edward (41) a lumber mill worker, and Sarah (40), lived with her widowed sister Hattie Irwin (43).[137] He appeared on the census of 1930 at Buffalo, Erie Co., New York, United States of America; where Edward (58), widowed, lived in the "coal office" with Robert Brewer (47), both labourers at the Coal Company.[138]

Herbert Stanley Sneyd;[139],[139] born 4 Jul 1876 at Garden Hill, Hope Twp, Durham Co., Ontario, Canada;[140],[141] married Harriett Belle Hewson 18 Sep 1907 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario, Canada; where Herbert (31) was a preacher in Toronto, Harriett (33) was daughter of W. H. Hewson and Jennie Phelps. Marriage performed by G[eorge] H. Sneyd;[142],[143] married Nora (--?--);[144] died circa 1960.[145]

        He appeared on the census of 1901 at Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Algoma District, Ontario, Canada; where Herbert S Sneyd (24) was a minister, lodging with the Evans family.[146] He and Harriett Belle Hewson lived circa 1909 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; for the birth of their first son.[147] He and Harriett Belle Hewson lived circa 1913 at Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan; where Herb helped to found the local YMCA, and became its General Secretary.[148],[149] The Sneyds were in Yokohama during the Great Kanto earthquake of 1923. "My father [H. Stan Sneyd] was working as a part-time delivery boy for the local drugstore at the time and was on a delivery during the disaster. He had left his bicycle leaning up against a utility pole and had taken his delivery of emergency supplies... He felt a tremble in the ground, looked back at his bike, only to see the earth open up underneath it, and the bicycle disappear in a fissure in the earth. ...Although they lived in Yokohama, some distance away from the epicentre, the quake was so strong that their house was destroyed as well, and they lost virtually everything. Fortunately, no one in the family was hurt."[150] Circa 1930 the family returned from Japan, going either to California due to Karl's ill health, and/or to Canada.[151] In 1948, George wrote a letter to his brother Herb about his early childhood entitled "Early Days in the Township of Cavan."[118]

      21. Martha3 LOCKINGTON (child of George, #42);[156],[157] born circa 1842 possibly in at Co. Cavan, Ulster, Ireland;[158] married Nathaniel Sneyd (see #20), son of John Sneyd and Mary (--?--), 21 Jan 1858 at Durham Co., Canada West (Ontario), British North America (Canada); where Nathaniel and Martha were of Hope Twp;[79] died 16 Jan 1894;[80],[159] buried at Perrytrown Anglican Church Cemetery, Hope Twp., Durham Co., Ontario, Canada, "The large tombstone for Nathaniel and Martha Sneyd is still in a prime spot just west of the church."[160]

Mr. Robert Rankin, for many years a captain on the Great Lakes, in which capacity he commanded the respect and admiration of a large number of the inland marine fraternity, died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. Gibbon, 451 Gladstone Avenue, Toronto, on Saturday last. He had been ailing since last summer, but was not thought to be seriously ill. A service was held at 451 Gladstone Avenue, Toronto, on Monday at 4 .m., at which Rev. Mr. Brogg officiated and the body was brought here on the 5.30 train and taken to the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. F. J. Sneyd, from where the funeral took place this afternoon. Rev. Dr. Rigby conducted the funeral service here. The following gentlemen acted as pall-bearers:-Mayor T. B. Chalk, Ex-Mayor Geo. A. Smith, Messrs. R. J. Edmunds, J. Honey, Chas. Ough and W. F. Walker. The floral tributes were both beautiful and numerous. Deceased was born in Port Hope seventy-three years ago and lived here up till twelve years ago, when he moved to Toronto. The late Mr. Rankin was an Anglican in religion; he was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and in politics a staunch Conservative . He was an ardent fisherman and a lover of sport. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, seven daughters and one son. Chief Magistrate William Rankin, of Nappanee, is a brother."[186]
