Robert was a member of a scouting party under Capt. James Davis in 1712.[1192] Robert presented an "Indian scalp" to the Council Chamber from a man slain at Oyster River at the hands of a scouting party.[1193]

              He began military service circa 1756 at Ireland with 27th "Inniskilling" Regiment of Foot in Captain Josiah Martin"s

              Company, for a 10-year period.[1245] He with the 27th regiment, where it is said he took part in the assault on Ticonderoga (1758), Quebec (1760), the West Indies at Barbados, Martinique, Grenada and Havana (1762) in Jun 1756 at New York, New York, British America.[1246],[1247] He was furloughed having spent time in hospital in Trois Rivières circa 1762 at Québec, British America.[1248] He lived between 1763 and 1777 at Skenesborough, New York, British America.[1249],[1250],[1251] He was a stonemason between 1766 and 1769 at Skenesborough, New York, British America.[1252] Lawrence and Mary had six children 1767-1789.[1253] He ended military service on 25 Jan 1767 at Québec City, Québec, British America.[1254] He leasing 100 acres from Phillip Skene in 1770 at Skenesborough, New York, British America.[1255] He was joined Gen. Burgoyne's campaign, then was a soldier gathering intelligence for the British, under the guidance of Dr. Samuel Adams, of Vermont between 1777 and 1779 at New York, United States of America.[1256],[1257] He and Mary Craig lived in Nov 1777 at Montréal, Québec, British America.[1258] He and Mary Craig lived between 1780 and 1783 at Yamachiche, Québec, British America.[1259] He joined the King's Rangers in Captain Azariah Pritchard's company between 1780 and 1783 at Québec, British America.[1260],[1261] It has been recorded that "Lawrence McKenzie, UE claim, 1783 at Machiche. Native of Ireland, lived 14 years at Skeensborough NY. A Protestant, he abjured shortly before his death." It was also recorded "emigrated in 1750" but 1756 is more likely.[1262] Declared a wife, two sons, aged 7 and 11, and three daughters, aged 9, 12 and 15, as he drew his entitlement of 400 acres at New Carlisle.[1263] On 9 Jun 1784, Lawrence McKenzie and family embarked the brig 'St. Peter' and they sailed toward their new home on Chaleur Bay. Storms kept them aboard, sometimes backtracking to Bic and Perce, until the 28th of June, and a drawing for Lots of land, laid out according to surveys completed by William Vondenvelden, took place at New Carlisle on the 3rd of August 1784.[1264],[894]

                The oldest daughter, Margaret, herself bore several children and probably died around New Carlisle some time after 1830 - as the 'Widow Rafter' (she apparently cohabited with Samuel William Allen from about 1811, and bore one son by him in 1814).[1270]

              • iii. Eleanor McKenzie;[1265],[1265] born circa 1771 at Skenesborough, New York, British America;[1271] married William Thompson;[1272] died 27 Sep 1827 at Eel River, Restigouche Co., New Brunswick, British North America (Canada).[1273]

                The middle daughter, Eleanor, married another soldier/loyalist named William Thompson, and by about 1800 they and their relations had moved to the Eel River Settlement on the New Brunswick side of the Chaleur Bay.[1270]

              • iv. Bridgit McKenzie;[1265],[1265] born 19 Jan 1789 at New Carlisle, Québec, British North America (Canada);[1111] died "aged 45" 1834.[1274]

                The youngest surviving daughter, Bridgit, married Joseph Mash or Marsh, and seems to have moved with her husband back to his native England.[1270]

                            1476.                             He was killed when Native Americans masacred many settlers. "Pike's Journal records the terrible event in the following laconic sentences: 'The Indians fell suddenly & unexpectedly upon Oyster River about break of day. Took 3 garrisons (being deserted or not defended) killed & carried away 94 persons, & burnt 13 houses...' Francis Drew... surrendered [his house] at Drew's Point, on promise of quarter. He is supposed to have killed an Indian, whose bones were found in the house after it was burned. Francis Drew attempted to escape and ran towards the Adams garrison but was overtaken by the Indians, bound and tomahawked. His wife was carried away and was rendered so feeble by hunger that she was left to die in the woods" on 18 Jul 1694 at Oyster River Plantation (Durham), Dover Twp., New Hampshire, British America.[1352]

                              At the masacre of 1694, "Thomas and wife were captured by Indians... He was taken to Canada and his wife to Norridgewock (now in Maine). Both returned before 1698.
