Mary
Eleanor Elliott
was living in Clonmore before her 1864 marriage to Francis Morton. The
marriage record made by the church, and the copy made into the government
registers are difficult to make out. It appears to say Mary was residing
at Minvaud House, townland of Clonmore in the County of Carlow:

There was a townland called Minvaud Lower in Clonmore, Co. Carlow. Minvaud House on that property was only about 10 km by road to Tinahely, home of her husband-to-be in the southern County of Wicklow. Both Minvaud House and the venue of their wedding were in the Parish of Clonmore. It seems for certain that her residence was in County Carlow.

Why Mary was in Clonmore remains a mystery. There was a Rev. Frederick Elliott in Clonmore in 1870, perhaps earlier. There were no Elliotts or Fitzgeralds among those living in Minvaud Lower during the Land Valuation of the 1850's, but a Michael Fitzgerald was occupying Belmount about a kilometre away on the road to Tinahely.
There was a Clonmore very near Clones, County Monaghan, with a miller named James Fitzgerald living there. This may have been Mary's uncle. Also there was a George Fitzgerald and Luke Knight, but it may be only a coincidence.
Mary's future brother-in-law Edward Morton came to Canada in the 1850's and had a farm near Barrie in Innisfil Township called Clonmore. Maybe Clonmore had a connection with the Mortons, and Mary was staying there while wedding preparations were being made.
