20. FitzGerald/Woollatt Genealogical Research, James Fitzgerald, online http://www.pathcom.com/~jfitzg/research.htm,Mar. 2000. {1}.

21. research note: John's father was Patrick Fitzgerald as per 1) research of James Fitzgerald of Toronto, 2) Fitzgerald pedigree in National Library of Ireland, Genealogical Office: Ms.175, pp.471-2. {2}.

22. research note: Pedigree of Fitz Gerald of Drumcose, Co. Fermanagh and Clones, with descent from Knight of Kerry, c.1700 -- 1917. Dublin: National Library of Ireland, Genealogical Office: Ms.175, pp.471-2. {2}.

27. Assumption: There are several entries in John D'Alton, Illustrations, historical and genealogical, of King James's Irish army list, 1689 (London, J. R. Smith: 1861):

John FitzGerald, Quarter-Master, Nicholas Purcell's Horse, p 239

John FitzGerald, Captain, Daniel O'Bryan's Dragoons, p 310

John FitzGerald, Cornet, Francis Carroll's Dragoons, p 374

John FitzGerald, Captain, Edward Butler's Infantry, p 806

John FitzGerald, Captain, Roger McEllicot's Infantry, p 913

The least likely are Purcell's and O'Bryan's, as those units fought at Boyne and were therefore not in Dublin during the escape, and McEllicot's seems most likely as his were raised in Kerry and seemed associated with the Earl of Clancarty's Infantry where a Capt. Alexander Maguire also served.. {1}.

28. Assumption: References to Minrin likely mean Minran, which is across Bunnahone Lough from Lenaghan. See http://www.placenamesni.org/map.php?urlminx=203367&urlminy=357829&urlmaxx=205060&urlmaxy=358498. {0}.
